Program and Curriculum
Tapawingo Day Care’s program is guided by the “How does learning happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years 2014 Document which is published by the Ontario government.
Pedagogy is “the understanding of how learning takes place and the philosophy and practice that support that understanding of learning”.
Our attention is focused on providing a high quality environment that reflects our view of children as being competent, capable, curious and rich in potential. Our educators/teachers facilitate each child’s growth by providing rich and stimulating activities, balanced to provide learning opportunities in all educational areas. Our program offers the four foundational conditions that are important for children to grow and flourish.
The program includes creative activities, active and quiet play, group and individual activities, and outdoor play.
Our staff works closely with specialists such as Resource Teachers, Speech Therapists, Behaviour Therapists, doctors etc. to meet the needs of individual children in the Day Care while providing them with the experience of being part of a group of children and taking part in all the activities of the program.
We also include some Christian content throughout our program and the children are introduced to various Bible stories in a weekly circle with follow- up activities.
Each day the children enjoy a hot, nutritious lunch and two snacks which are prepared on site and we have catered hot lunches.
After lunch the children lay down for a rest period of one to two hours, depending on the child’s needs.
Program schedules and weekly charts are always available to view as well as the weekly menus of snacks and lunches.
Monthly newsletters keep parents informed of upcoming events and changes at the Day Care.
